78 years ago, the few defenders of the Fort Roupel in Serres, blocked the German invaders at the Greek-Bulgarian borders, thus forcing them to alter their initial plans and conquer Thessaloniki through Yugoslavia. During the “Battle of the Forts” (6-10/4/1941) the men of the legendary Roupel exhibited unparalleled heroism, courage and self-sacrifice, earning the respect of the Allies and the recognition of the enemy, who honored them.

This was a unique incident during the Second World War. The commander’s response Georgios Douratsos to the German’s demand for surrender –“Forts do not surrender. They are conquered”– has made history and continues to thrill until nowadays.

On Sunday 12 May 2019 visit Roupel for a unique journey in time and history. Reenactment teams -from Greece and abroad- with uniforms and weapons of the WWII, along with impressive effects of fire, explosions and air simulations, will reenact the enemy’s raging effort to occupy the fort – symbol, along with separate moments of heroism and self-sacrifice of other forts of the famous “Metaxas Line” at the northern borders of the country.

Also, between 10-12 May 2019, various parallel actions and events will take place inside and outside the underground tunnels of the fort, as well as in Sidirokastro

The event «ROUPEL 1941. THE REVIVAL» is carried out under the auspices of the Ministry of National Defence, while having the support of the Administrative Region of Central Macedonia and the Regional Union of Municipalities of Central Macedonia etc.

CAUTION: The final public attendance is estimated at 10:30 am in order to arrive in time and watch in comfort the two-day happenings. Hours running parallel events: 09:00 to 18:00.
